In a commitment to improve its industry-leading quality, Dunns (Long Sutton) Limited has invested a significant sum in a state-of-the-art Tomra IXUS Bulk X-ray sorter, which has just been installed into the company’s BRC A-grade production line.
“As pulses are an agricultural commodity they often contain field debris when entering our site,” said Phil Rix, Dunns’ pulses manager. “Our responsibility as processors is to produce a safe, high quality product for our customers and we believe that this X-Ray machine will help contribute towards this.
“It is important for us to continually strive to improve our quality of product to meet the ever-increasing demands of our customers and food safety requirements. We have made a conscious decision as a business to re-invest in our processing equipment.”
The X-ray sorter, installed in January 2015, is the largest in the UK pulse industry, with processing speeds in excess of 10t per hour. It will detect and remove dense field debris such as stones, glass and metal.
“Along with our double de-stoning and laser sorting machinery this will ensure that our quality of product is right first time, every time,” said Mr Rix.
